Our Wedding in Spain

Just a few short weeks ago, my husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary! It's hard to believe how quickly this first year has gone by, but now that I've had a full year to soak it all in I wanted to share some of our favourite moments and details here with you.

We were married in June 2019 at a small church in Benalmadena Pueblo, in the south of Spain. The church is perched on a hilltop, giving an amazing view of the sea and surrounding village. We knew the moment we saw it that this was where we wanted to exchange vows.

And to be honest, we had that same feeling the first time we arrived at our reception location as well. When we arrived for our first tour at the Gran Hotel Miramar in Malaga, it was love at first sight. The venue has quite a bit of history and has changed purpose over the years, ranging from a king's hotel, a hospital during the Spanish Civil War, and as Malaga's Palace of Justice for a period of time. It is now a gorgeous hotel with hints of Andalusian architecture and decorated throughout with Moorish tiling.

The Stationery

Naturally as a calligrapher, I was so excited to create my own stationery for the big day. Everything was largely inspired by the location. The invitations consisted of spot calligraphy, tile patterns illustrated in watercolour, an illustrated map, and navy hand-made paper envelopes with gold calligraphy.

Our day-of stationery included scroll place cards, acrylic table numbers, a hand-written seating chart, menus with a palm leaf monogram and spot calligraphy.

Other Details

The inspiration for our cake came from the arabesque tile patterns found throughout Miramar Hotel. We had 3 tiers of red velvet, lemon cake, and raspberry cake, decorated in fondant. I loved the look of white on white pattern, topped with a large handmade sugar flower!
